There has been an “engaging” rumor going around about how if you use Instagram’s Filters your photo will be “pushed up” in the algorithm. So I spent about a week using different instagram filters on my post. I also tried to do some “edits” as well to it in the instagram app to see if had any effect on it as well.
Results: Nada. This really didn’t do anything to boost my feed to be honest I think it might have lowered my likes do to instagram filters being super harsh and loosing the quality of the photos.
Regular vs Business vs Creator Accounts
Instagram this year rolled out the “Creator Account” this basically was a new way to show you account as an influencer or creator. Prior to this release I would constantly hear about how once people switched to a business account their engagement plummeted.
- Regular – My account for sure was getting more likes and followers being just a regular account but the issue for a lot of creators/influencers with this is you need to have your account attached to a business page so brands can see your analytics.
- Business – This is the account type that I have used the longest (while doing influencer campaigns) and it for sure has a dip compared to a Regular account but it doesn’t dip me as far down as the Creator account.
- Creator – Since switching to creator my engagement has gone so far down I use to be at an average of 5% engagement on SocialBlade but since going to Creator I am now down to a 2% engagement. Which isn’t horrible but I was getting many more campaign opportunities when I was at 5% engagement.
Comment on Yourself
When I say comment on yourself I don’t mean the reply back to someone’s comment. I mean the using the heart emoji or some other emoji has an enter key in your comments section to “trick” Instagram into thinking your post is getting attention and bump you up.
This did actually work which I understand why. Often with the algorithm the first hour is what really counts so the more attention your post gets within the first 30 minutes is how far up the feed your post shall go. I noticed that my likes and comments within the first hour boosted up much higher due to this and then noticed that my post would continue to get a decent amount of attention through out the day. The only issue with this is you can get action blocked for doing this if you do the comments on your own post too fast so make sure to be careful with your timing.
No Caption vs Short Caption vs Long Caption
Caption are a large part of being an influencer. Most influencers will say the way to engagement is through your caption. With using the same hashtags and posting time for all three these are the results.
No caption went horrible. I had the worst engagement I have had in a long time. Captions help involve and engage your audience I often try to comment and like on all photos but if you don’t anything to comment about its hard for me to comment at all. Most of my comments on that post were single word comments like “Cute, Pretty, Love, etc”.
Short Caption I got a lot more engagement and interaction out of it. The comments were on average a two – four words. My engagement seemed to be higher.
Long Caption for sure get the most engagement. I think in general this is because of the fact that users will spend more time with your post in front of them as well as they have more information to comment off of. The average comment length was 3 – 8 words for this one. I also am curious to know if the Instagram algorithm picks up words not hash-tagged in your captions because i noticed user who wouldn’t normally come from my regular hashtags had found their way to my post.
Private Account the Mystery to Follow
Does making your account a mystery make people want to follow you? As most people know having a private account means people must request to follow you and then you must accept.
If you are wanting to be an influencer this is more than likely a terrible idea due to the fact that brands will not be able to see your content to decided if they want to work with you but for engagement purposes. This did actually work. I noticed my likes went up. I did also get a lot more follow request but I will be honest most were bots. So the positive of it is you can weed out the bot accounts with ease by making your profile private.
